Quickest Street Car in the World!

Larry_S10_Garage
Larry Larson does it again… While this year’s Drag Week was a much different experience for the 5x Champion, it did not stop Larson  from turning Drag Week on its head and grabbing the headlines once again. Larry broke the record by more than two tenths for the quickest Street Car in world by going a 6.16 @ 219 MPH in his all-new 1988 Chevy S-10.

While Larry may not have achieved his goal of a 6th Unlimited Drag Week Championship, no one can argue with his success this year. For more coverage of Drag Week 2014 and more from Larry and his incredible s-10, follow the links below.

DragWeek 2012 = 5 in a row!

DragWeek  12 sponsored by Gear Vendors has come and gone but one thing stayed the same. The Unlimited and Overall title once again went to Larry Larson and his famed 1966 Chevy II.

DW 12 was the toughest yet starting off with a eye opening 6.94 at Tulsa Raceway Park with the possibility of a six second run and average at every track and looking like this might be the year.

Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Tx. soon put a halt to all those thoughts on Tuesday. A rolled sprag in the burnout equated to pulling the trans and later a 7.10.

On to Shreveport, La. and the problems continue with an electrical issue. Meanwhile nemesis Jeff Lutz ran his fastest pass ever, a 7.001. After repairing the problem a 7.28 was all the track would handle in the heat of the afternoon.

Rain at daylight and a long day ahead was to be at Memphis, Tn. After putting down a stout 7.03 and Jeff now struggling one more pass was in order. Unfortunately 4500 miles on a ring and pinion and some uninvited tire shake from earlier in the week would lead to the breakage on that second run. With some help from the locals and 6 hours later it would be a quiet night back to Tulsa with a new ring and pinion.

Not so easy was the trip as 45 miles out at 3:30 am. the rain began. Arrival at the track was finally accomplished by 8:30 only to watch it mist and rain the rest of the day. At this point in time the Chevy II and 57 were separated by just thousanths.

Due to Hot Rod and Tulsa Raceway Park rescheduling for Saturday it would be a battle to the end, no rainout! By the time it started to rain again around 2:00 one more 6.940 was in order. With Jeff still struggling it carried into the closest winning margin ever on DW but once again Larry was victorious for an unbelievable 5th DW crown.

Thanks to everyone that played a part in this record!

Schorr makes a run at ADRL Extreme Pro Stock

Kansas City area native, David Schorr is making some waves this year in ADRL Extreme Pro Stock. The 3 time Fun Ford Weekend Pro 5.0 Champion set out this year to chase the points and be competitive in one series. Coming off his Runner-Up performance at last year’s Shake Down at E-Town, Schorr is off to a great start already in 2012.

“It’s my first year to run the full series if ADRL,” said Schorr. “Its fun, competition is tough and you have to be consistent, but we have a great car and awesome crew. We’re going to be just fine.”

With 5 races left in the 2012 season, Schorr has already piloted his Larson Race Cars built 2004 Ford Escort to a semi final appearance at the ADRL Gateway Drags IV in St. Louis, MO and a quarter final round match-up at the ADRL U.S. Drags in Richmond, VA. Next up, ADRL Summer Drags VIII.

PMRA Racer, Bruce Boland heads for the top!

Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, returned to his winning ways, capturing the Pro Modified Racing Association race during the Canadian Nitro Nationals at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

A three-time PMRA champion, this win was the first for Boland and his 1941 Willys Pro Modified in 2012. The win was also his series-leading tenth in PMRA competition since the series began racing in 2005.

“This was a perfect weekend,” Boland mentioned after the final round. “We had some clutch issues earlier this year, but that’s all straightened out, and we ran the same tune-up this weekend and all went well.”

Boland qualified his Larson built Willys number one with a 6.005-second, 247.57 posting, and this was his fourth straight top qualifying effort in the PMRA. He met up with number three qualifier and former IHRA Pro Modified champion Kenny Lang of Grande Pointe, Manitoba in the final, but Lang had some handling issues with his 1969 Camaro in the race, and Boland drove down the track’s left lane to a 6.008, 237.71 victory.

“I have to thank Rob Cesario and all my crew for their work this weekend,” Boland continued. “And a big thanks to all my sponsors, Backwoods Excavating & Float Service, Excel Motorsports, Pro Racing Fuels, NGK Spark Plugs, A&A Auto Parts, Double D Construction, and Vieira Concrete Supplies. Without them this wouldn’t be possible.”

In first round action, Boland recorded the event’s only five-second run with a 5.931 eliminating number eight qualifier Jason Kalso of Clarkston, Michigan. In the semi-final, Boland got the jump on number five qualifier Eric Latino of Whitby, Ontario to advance.

Matusek goes to the semis in Houston

Aeromotive President and Founder, Steve Matusek pulled off and impressive performance at the NHRA Spring Nats in Houston, TX with a win over number one qualifier, Mike Castellana in Round 1. The win earned Steve a bye in round two and a trip into the Semifinals. Steve qualified number 14 with 6.132 ET at 246.21 mph. This marks the first trip to the Semis for Steve in his Larson Built NHRA Pro Mod, but hopefully not his last. “We’re doing the whole series this year,” said Matusek who has raced everything from NMRA Pro 5.0 to NMCA Pro Extreme, NHRA Super Gas, Comp Eliminator and Super Comp.

“We’ve just got such an amazing team,” Matusek continued. “This year we added a good friend and legend Chuck Samuels. He is such a good compliment to Larry (Larson). web domain We may be a small team out there compared to some of the shows, but we make some waves!” Steve said with a smile.

Look for Larry on the starting line of several upcoming NHRA Pro Mod races as Steve and the guys chase their elusive first win in the ultra competitive NHRA Pro Mod class.
