Schorr off to a great start for 2012 in Houston

With big goals in mind, David Schorr and the Schorr Family Racing had a strong start at the ADRL’s season-opening race, CarSafe Dragpalooza VIII at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston.

Schorr, the driver of the 2004 Ford Escort ZX2 powered by Jon Kaase Racing Engines, found himself qualified in the No. 11 spot with a 4.13 and immediately against a heavy hitter during the first round of eliminations. Paired against 2010 XPS world champion John Montecalvo, Schorr was the benefactor of some Montecalvo tire shake and pulled off the huge upset.

A round later, Schorr couldn’t repeat his first-round magic against Cale Aronson, running a 4.14 and being edged out by a mere 16 inches. It ended up being a great race and, in turn, a great weekend for the Schorr team.

“Overall, my crew and myself are happy. We had issues with the car going straight and missing the set up, but we have learned from that,” Schorr said. “My team worked very hard and without them, the car wouldn’t run as well as it has been. Our sponsors, Schorr Transmission and Automotive Repair, Avenue Auto Parts and DEI Hauling, make it possible to be running the car in the ADRL circuit. We are looking forward to Bristol and the rest of the season. We are really hoping to be a contender in the points chase.”

While Schorr Family Racing had a great opening with their race car, they also had added a bit of brightness to their team appearance. Classic Graphix designed some eye-catching crew shirts for Schorr Family Racing and Classic Graphix also provided the new t-shirts for the racing team.

Schorr Family Racing is a part of the CarSafe Elite Hero Challenge as well. David Schorr will be signing autographs every event at the CarSafe area, putting his name on some awesome hero cards in the process.

Fastest Pass in NMCA History!

Aeromotive’s President, Steve Matusek broke the NMCA mile per hour record in his Larson built Pro Mod chassis by more than 16 mph this past weekend at the NMCA World Street Finals in Indianapolis, IN. The twin turbo, Roush Yates Ford powered Mustang laid down a 6.11 @ 250.41, the fastest pass ever in the NMCA and the 1st over 250 mph. Equally impressive, Matusek recorded consistency with 3 consecutive runs of 6.11 @ 250.41, 6.07 @ 248 and 6.08 @ 249.

This marks the first ever NMCA participation from the Aeromotive crew with this car. The older Aeromotive Mustang (also built by Larry Larson), powered by the famous Ford Modular Motor, now piloted by John Mihovetz still holds the NMRA Record for the quickest and fastest pass in NMRA history with an impressive, 6.54 @ 215.48
